Jannik Sinner-Novak Djokovic: Simone Vagnozzi is confident
The words of Simone Vagnozzi
Jannik Sinner’s coach Simone Vagnozzi spoke to Sky and Supertennis microphones on the eve of the Australian Open semifinal, in which the South Tyrolean will face Novak Djokovic. "We have been training a lot during the winter to try to be in the best shape in Melbourne,” he stressed. The start of the tournament went very well and the semifinal with Djokovic will definitely be a great experience. If Jannik wins we will be overjoyed to play our first Slam final, while if he loses we will once again try to learn something from this great champion".
"In Turin for example, the difference è was that Novak è was used to managing all week at that level, and Jannik è arrived tired to the final – added the coach of the blue -. The next week we won in the Davis Cup, and I hope this will serve him to go on the court tomorrow believing. We know that playing with Novak 3 out of 5 is not è the easiest of situations, forò I think Jannik goes into the court with confidence for everything he did last year".
"What I è liked the most was his attitude on the court – he later emphasized -. Jannik è was always calm and positive, and this helped him even in complicated moments, in 0-30 situations or when there’was to resume games and matches. Then I was impressed by the fact that for the first time we faced this Slam without first playing other tournaments. It was a complete novelty, but Jannik digested it well and it was not easy. Then to get to the semifinals without losing a set means he was really good".
" We so many times take Novak as an example based on what he does on the court and in these two years we have tried to put something of Novak inside Jannik, like being more tactical inside the match… A lot of times Djokovic on the court plays chess, he knows where to shoot each shot and he knows in advance where the next ball is going to come. I think Jannik is getting closer to Nole in this aspect, but on the other hand I think that already now Sinner makes the ball go more, has a little bit more power".
"We know that to beat Novak you have to go inside, shoot and go for the points when possible. But there are no secrets. As for preparation…you know players are superstitious, for now we will go on the court and do the same things we did during the week" concluded Vagnozzi on the match with the Serbian champion, scheduled for Friday night at 04.30 Italian.
