Season over for Olympic downhill champion Corinne Suter
Swiss Ski has made official on its website with a statement the early end of the season for Corinne Suter, who was injured in today’s World Cup downhill in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The 29-year-old from Canton Schwyz è the reigning Olympic champion in the specialty, and three years ago on the very Ampezzo slope of the Tofane Olympia she graduated world champion.
However, last season she had to skip races due to an injury always in Cortina but in the lower part of the slope, this time she è hurt herself by landing badly from the jump after 20 seconds of the race, the same on which she misdirected and then è fell ending up in the nets Mikaela Shiffrin. Here is the text of the Swiss Ski statement.
“Corinne Suter è injured her left knee today during the downhill in Cortina d'Ampezzo. After a jump at the top of the downhill, the speed specialist complained of severe pain in her knee (more like agonizing screams, ed.)”.
“‘Tests at the Hirslanden Clinic in Zurich showed a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and an injury to the inner meniscus in her left knee. Corinne will undergo surgery tomorrow morning at the Hirslanden Clinic. If the recovery proceeds as planned, she will be able to return to normal racing next winter’, said team doctor Walter O. Frey”.
At home in Switzerland è fell, fortunately without sustaining fractures or ruptured ligaments, Michelle Gisin, who però got back up in pain and will not participate in the downhill and super-G that remain to be contested in Cortina tomorrow and the day after.
