Roma suffers, expels Salerno and flies to fifth place
Second consecutive victory for Daniele De Rossi
At the Arechi Stadium, the last match of the 22nd day of Serie A ended with a hard-fought victory for Roma, which won 1-2 over Salernitana, giving Daniele De Rossi his second consecutive victory.
The first chance è for the hosts on 13’: Candreva kicked from the counter-balance finding a good response from Rui Patricio. Ten minutes later è again the former Lazio man made himself dangerous with a shot on the turn that just grazed the crossbar. Despite Roma’s forcing, Salernitana managed to create three more chances with Bradaric, Tchaouna and Simy, all three neutralized by the Portuguese extreme defender.
At the beginning of the second half, Roma, after a bad first half, managed to find the lead at 50’: the Giallorossi won a penalty kick for a hand foul by Maggiore. After the Var check, Dybala appeared on the penalty spot, dispatching Ochoa with precision. On 66' came the doubling of Daniele De Rossi’s men: the "Joya" serves Karsdorp who puts the ball in the middle finding Pellegrini at the second post, who inserts with an easy tap-in. The Giallorossi’s double advantage, however, lasted only four minutes, as Kastanos on an assist from Tchaouna reopened the game with a precise header.
After the round of substitutions, Salernitana attempted the final forcing and managed to find an’excellent opportunity, in full recovery, with Ikwuemesi, whose header was blocked by Rui Patricio, who thus gave the Capitolini three key points for the race to the Champions League.
With this success, Roma è moved up to fifth place in the standings with 35 points, while Salernitana remains in last place at 12. On the next day, the Giallorossi will receive Claudio Ranieri’s Cagliari, while the Campani will face Ivan Juric’s Torino away.
