Sofiia Yaremchuk and Giovanna Epis qualified for Paris Olympic marathon
First blue passes for the women’s marathon at the Paris 2024 Olympics, scheduled for Sunday, August 11 on the final day of the Games.
Based on the World Athletics criteria, Sofiia Yaremchuk (Army) and Giovanna Epis (Carabinieri), respectively the Italian record holder with a time of 2h23'16” obtained in Valencia, and the third Italian women’s all-time record holder with a time of 2h23'46” in Hamburg, are qualified.
Yaremchuk and Epis, by virtue of these times that meet the qualifying standard set at 2h26’50”, rank among the top 65 (out of a target number of 80) in the "Road to Paris" as of Jan. 30 and therefore can be considered qualified.
Kicking off in Spain is the second winter training period for Olympic march champion Antonella Palmisano, gold medalist in Tokyo and world bronze medalist in Budapest last summer, who is expected to start in the 10-kilometer road race in Guadix, Andalusia, on Sunday.
The men’s race, on the other hand, will see the other two athletes involved in this preparation stage, Francesco Fortunato and Andrea Agrusti.
