Marta Bassino and Federica Brignone, one-two punch
Marta Bassino in triumph
Outstanding performance by Marta Bassino, who crowned her day with a stunning victory in the second downhill at Crans Montana. After coming close to the podium the previous day, the 27-year-old from Borgo San Dalmazzo won her first seasonal success in the Alpine Ski World Cup, demonstrating an overwhelming superiority over the competition.
Starting with a favorable bib number on a technical course, Bassino immediately showed impressive speed, standing out especially in the turns where her ability as a giant skier è emerged in all its glory. Despite a slight loss of speed in the middle section, she è managed to recover in the final, finishing with a time of 1'26"84, distancing her teammate Federica Brignone by 54 hundredths.
The Valle d’Aosta native, who started with determination and trying to imitate Bassino's exploit, lost ground initially but recovered in the most difficult sections, moving closer to the top. The former World Cup winner lost a bit of ground in the finale, finishing ahead of Lara Gut-Behrami, 1"11 away from the winner.
