Federica Brignone and Marta Bassino, one-two close calls.
Federica Brignone second
Stephanie Venier pulls an’excellent super-G out of her hat on the Mont Lasceaux in Crans Montana and takes the win, after having two not excellent downhill runs. The Austrian ès time of 1’16″52, only 4 hundredths better than a’very good Federica Brignone, who registers podium number 65 of her career, the second in two days in Switzerland, and recovers points in the specialty ranking, as Lara Gut-Behrami stops in sixth place. Now the Valdostana è is third, 34 points behind the Swiss and 29 behind Austria’s Hutter, in second place. That’s 4 hundredths that stings, but the difference between the two è was the middle section, where the Austrian brushed by, pulling away from Brignone. The Italian made up a lot with a perfect final part, but it wasn’t enough for the victory.
Third place for Marta Bassino, completely rediscovered, only 15 hundredths behind Venier. Also for the Piedmontese, a slower middle part than the first two and a final recovery that handed her the third step of the podium.
Laura Pirovano, with bib 1, managed to take 11th place with a 1″04 disadvantage, while è 13/a Roberta Melesi at 1″20. Nicol Delago and Teresa Ruggaldier are at 2″31, Sara Thaler at 3″05, Nadia Delago at 3″68 while è Vicky Bernardi is out. The women’s circus moves to Val di Fassa, on the VolatA, the San pellegrino Pass track, for the last Italian stage of the season.
