Italy's Davide Ghiotto, an Olympic bronze medalist two years ago in Beijing, won the 10,000-meter race at the World Ice Skating World Championships, on Calgary's Olympic Oval.
The 30-year-old from Vicenza thus confirmed the title he won last year in the Netherlands, in Heerenveen. Today the Italian also set a new Italian record for the distance, taking it from 12:41.35 to 12:38.32.
Silver to Canadian Ted-Jan Bloemen, bronze to another home skater, Graeme Fish. At these World Championships in Calgary Ghiotto had already won a silver in the 5,000 event and gold in the team pursuit, with Michele Malfatti and Andrea Giovannini.
