Ferrari, Sainz: "Something didn’t work"
Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz spoke after finishing fourth in the official qualifying of the Bahrain GP: "We all expected Max’s pole in qualifying, but after Q1 and Q2 I felt I was fighting for the pole and then, for a reason I still don’t understand, we couldn’t find the 2-3 tenths in Q3 that we normally find as a team".
"I did a clean and conservative lap in Q2 to save the tire for the race, without pushing hard and doing 1:29.5. Then in Q3, when I pushed instead, I did the same time, so there’è something we have to understand. È it was a good qualifying, I felt very good, but Q3 did not è go perfectly".
Frederic Vasseur also didn’t hide his disappointment: "With the best time in Q1 and Q2, you expect pole, but we couldn’t put it all together. È the first step of the weekend, we will see our pace in the race. We said at the beginning of the weekend that it was very difficult to interpret the tests, but è it was a matter of tenths. Today we were all on the limit and that è a true picture. I don’t know what happened to Sainz in Q3, but today the preparation lap had a lot of importance, with temperatures lower than a week ago“.
