Flora Tabanelli returns to the podium in the Freestyle World Cup
One more podium for 16-year-old Flora Tabanelli from Modena in the season-closing Big Air in Tignes. And è the second of the season (and of her career) and earned her a third place finish in the specialty ranking. It was guessed from the qualifiers that the 20-meter ramp, in the French Alps, was liked by our strong 2007 freeskier. But then you have to put the points down at the time of the race.
Flora starts with a double cork 1260, with a grab held for a full lap that earned her 80.75 points; followed by an 80-point bio 900 switch that put her in second before the third run. In the third run, Flora puts the same trick from the first round back into play and does it much better, getting 90.25, for a total of 170.25 that earns her the third place finish, after the third place already obtained in Beijing, last December.
The competition goes to Switzerland’s Mathilde Gremaud with 178.25 points, ahead of China’s Mengting Liu with 170.75, only half a point better than Tabanelli. Gremaud wins the specialty ranking with 380 points, ahead of France’s Tess Ledeux. But Flora Tabanelli climbs from sixth to the final third place with 189 points. A great result for the very young Italian, in her first season in the World Cup.
The men’s race è was won by American Alexander Hall with 186.50 points. Hall è also won the specialty cup. Second place in the competition was grafted by Norway’s Leo Landroe with 185.50 points, ahead of Switzerland’s Andre Ragettli with 183 points. Despite not participating in the final, Miro Tabanelli, the leader of the specialty ranking before Tignes, maintains third place overall, as did his sister, with 162 points.
