The world of gymnastics mourns the loss of a great champion, Gigi Cimnaghi, who passed away at age 83 in his native Meda, Brianza. He took his first steps in the '50s in Forza e Virtù then at Sampietrina di Seveso and finally at Pro Patria Milano. Thanks to his extraordinary talent, he è became a staple of the Italian national team starting in 1962, participating in two editions of the Olympic Games in 1964 in Tokyo and 1968 in Mexico City.
His successes were numerous and illustrious: national champion at parallel bars for three consecutive years from 1964 to 1966 and at pommel horse in 1965 and 1966. Internationally, he achieved prestigious results at the Mediterranean Games, bringing home team gold medals in 1963 and 1967, as well as individual silver at pommel horse and parallel bars in 1967. In the same year, she also added bronze at the barre and the overall individual competition.
In 1977, he assumed the role of technical director of the men’s national team, guiding the Italian athletes with dedication and passion for four years.
