Massimo Eccheli vs. the Trento taboo
The words of Massimo Eccheli
Another Scudetto Semifinal Series kicks off for Massimo Eccheli’s MINT Vero Volley Monza the second overall in its history in SuperLega Credem Banca, expected the day after tomorrow, Sunday, March 31, at 6 p.m. (live on Rai Sport and volleyballworld.tv) by the reigning Italian champions Itas Trentino, at “IL T Quotidiano Arena” for Game 1. The game will be played, as in the Quarterfinals, where Beretta and his teammates eliminated Cucina Lube Civitanova, at the best of five games, with the Brianzoli hosting the Trentino team on Wednesday night at’Opiquad Arena for Game 2.
Determination, qualityà, choralityà of play: Monza will try to restart from these aspects to try to direct the Series against Trento immediately on the right tracks and then take advantage of the home match to fly only where the eagles dare, dreaming of the tricolor Final. With the broadsides of Szwarc and Maar (the latter MVP of the match won last Wednesday against the Marches 1-3), the central accelerations of Galassi and Di Martino, those from nine meters of Loeppky and Takahashi (often decisive with their turns) and the defenses of Gaggini, the men’s first team of Consorzio Vero Volleyball will try to bring home an important smile, taking advantage of the positive results obtained this season.
Sunday will open; the third confrontation in the Scudetto Play Off table between the two teams. There are already two quarterfinal challenges in the archives (2017 and 2023 editions), with Trento getting the better of both circumstances by winning five of the six games played. Never before had the challenge thus occurred in the semifinals, as it did in the annual Coppa Italia edition (then won by the Brianzoli at the tie break last Jan. 27 in Bologna). Also on file are an Italian Super Cup Final (2021, won by Trento 3-1 in Civitanova) and no less than three Coppa Italia quarterfinals (2017, 2018 and 2022 editions). In all direct clashes è however, it’s always been Itas Trentino that got the better of them.
“For us Trento è always been a tabù court where, even doing good performances, we never managed to bring home the victory – admitted coach Massimo Eccheli -. The court factor might not be on our side, but è it is true that every match has its own story. We face this scudetto semifinal with a lot of enthusiasm, with the knowledge that we are a tough and hungry team, with the desire to make the’feat”.
