Giro d’Italia: Tadej Pogacar also triumphs in Prati di Tivo and is confirmed in pink
Giro d'Italia: Tadej Pogacar also takes the eighth stage. Good Antonio Tiberi
After Oropa and the Perugia time trial, Tadej Pogacar è also won the eighth stage of Giro d'Italia number 107, the 152-kilometer Spoleto-Prati di Tivo. The Slovenian cyclist preceded Colombian Daniel Felipe Martinez and Australian Ben O'Connor in the final sprint. Good fourth place for Italy's Antonio Tiberi. Geraint Thomas closes the top 5.
Completing the top 10 are Einer Rubio, Cian Uijtdebroeks, Thymen Arensman, Michael Storer and Alex Baudin. In the general classification, the UAE Team Emirates rider manages to stretch into the lead and confirm himself as the pink jersey.
"I did not expect to win today at all. As a team we rode very well from the start. Rafal Majka did a great job leading the Maglia Rosa group. It was great to win again here in Prati di Tivo. As soon as we passed the first climb of the day, my teammates wanted me to go for the stage win. We have already seen Dani Martinez make good placings this year, of course I was thinking of him as the main opponent, but he wasn't the only one. Antonio Tiberi tried a couple of times. I had more or less everything under control. I hope tomorrow will be a relaxing day, but the last 50 km are treacherous, so he will have to stay focused until Naples" these are the warm statements of Tadej Pogacar after winning the eighth stage.
