Alexander Zverev brings up Jannik Sinner after triumph
Alexander Zverev won the Rome Internationals for the second time in his career. The German tennis player overcame Chilean Jarry in two sets in the final, winning the fifth Masters 1000 tournament of his career at the Foro Italico: Zverev è won in one hour and 43 minutes with the scores of 6-4, 7-5, dominating on serve.
After the triumph, at the moment of the award ceremony, an enthusiastic Zverev è was also the protagonist of a little siparietto with the Italian audience present quoting Jannik Sinner: "Good morning everyone, my name è Jannik…", è the joking phrase that made the audience present smile, orphaned by the South Tyrolean tennis player, highly anticipated but forced to forfeit due to a hip problem.
Zverev è was very much cheered by the crowd and in the pre-match conference had said he felt almost "Italian": "I always receive so much support. Italians are a crazy crowd, and I like that. I wouldn’t replace Jannik, but maybe for this week, if they can see me like thisì I would be happy".
The German hopes that the triumph in Italy will be a springboard for upcoming engagements, from Roland Garros to Wimbledon and the Olympics: "This è a very special moment for me, the last two years have been very hard because of the injury. The whole team è sacrificed to allow me to be on the court and this è a reward for them".
