Novak Djokovic, birthday with victory in Geneva
Victory number 1100 on the highest circuit for Novak Djokovic, who in his debutom, albeit second-round, ATP match on clay in Geneva, beat German Yannick Hanfmann, world number 85, with a double 6-3.
The Serb celebrated just today 37 years of age with this success: break in his favor in the sixth game to decide the first set and then, in the second, overturn from 0-3 with a break to 6-3, but even in the first set he had had to cancel as many as seven beak balls, two on 4-2 and as many as five on 5-3.
The world No. 1 will now face in the quarterfinals the winner between Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands, the tournament’s No. 6 seed, and Canadian Denis Shapovalov.
