Novak Djokovic resurrects with Lorenzo Musetti and warns Jannik Sinner
World No. 1 triumphs at 3:30 a.m.
One step away from the feat. Musetti plays one of his best career matches and comes within one step of eliminating Djokovic from Roland Garros (resulting in Sinner being crowned the new world No. 1). Unfortunately, at the best of times, the 37-year-old Serb reminds everyone why he's considered one of the greatest tennis players ever.
Djokovic has to resort to all his enormous experience and use all his physical and mental energies to get the better of the Italian. The match is resolved after four and a half hours with Djokovic winning with the following partials: 7-5 6-7 2-6 6-3 6-0. The fifth set certifies how Musetti arrived at the last partial practically exhausted.
The Serb did not want to polemic with the'organization for wanting to end, at all costs, the match (3:30 in the morning): "I do not want to talk about the program. I think some things could have been handled better…. È it's nice to win at 3:30 a.m. but if it's the last match of the tournament and this one wasn't", his words reported by ESPN.
He chews bitterly Sinner, who will now have to bet on Cerundolo, Djokovic’s next opponent in the round of 16 at Roland Garros. However, Djokovic seems to have regained confidence in his own means and, as a result, seems ready for anything to retain the world number title. Sinner è been warned, there will be pain to achieve the big dream.
