Roland Garros, Jasmine Paolini unstoppable: semifinal also in doubles with Sara Errani
Jasmine Paolini/Sara Errani – Emma Navarro/Shnaider 6-3 6-3
A historic day for Jasmine Paolini at Roland Garros. After clinching her first semifinal at a Grand Slam thanks to a three-set victory over Kazakhstan’s Rybakina, the world No. 4, the Tuscan peeled off a pass to the semifinals in the doubles tournament as well, paired with Sara Errani. The Italian women defeated the duo formed by the U.S. Emma Navarro and Russian Diana Shnaider with a double 6-3 after an hour and eleven minutes of play.
A match dominated by Paolini and Errani, who got the break in the opening game, confirmed with authority in the next game (2-0). The only moment of difficulty for the Azzurri è came at 5-3 when they had to cancel three break points to Navarro/Shnaider. Having escaped the danger, Sara and Jasmine once again snatched the serve from their opponents, forfeiting the first partial for 6-3.
In the second set, service became a factor in the negative: with the exception of the first game in which the Italian pair held serve, there were no less than five consecutive games with breaks. To make the difference è the seventh game, in which Errani/Paolini manage to confirm the break advantage and then close on the final 6-3.
With this success Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini thus enter the semifinals of the Paris Slam, where they will face the winners of the challenge between Russia’s Mirra Andreeva and Vera Zvonareva and the pair formed by’Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk and Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
