Germany makes a late comeback over Greece, England falls to Iceland
Success in extremis for Germany, England knockout
After a deadlocked draw with Ukraine, Germany approaches Euro 2024 with a success in the last friendly match. The national team coached by Julian Nagelsmann, in fact, came out on top in a comeback over Greece, thanks to a goal scored in the final minutes. Bitter eve, instead, for England, which was narrowly defeated by Iceland at Wembley.
At Borussia Park è Greece unlocked the result at 34'thanks to a clumsy parry by Neuer who did not hold the ball allowing Masouras to score from two steps. At 55' the German team found the equalizer through Kai Havertz who beat the Hellenic extreme defender thanks also to a deflection by Siopis. Then, in the final minutes, it was Pascal Groß who gave the success to Germany thanks to a precise low shot from outside the box.
At Wembley, Iceland found the goal on 13'with Porsteinsson steering towards the inside of the pitch, skipping past Stones and piercing Ramsdale at his post. England tried several times to find the equalizer, but the Icelandic fort held until the final whistle.
In the other matches played, Albania, Italy's first opponent at Euro 2024, won over Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic overwhelmed Malta, and Poland defeated Ukraine. Parity, meanwhile, between Scotland and Finland and between Romania and Lietchestein.
