Bounty of medals for Italy on the first day of competition

Nadia Battocletti capped off a triumphant day for Italy at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, triumphing by force in the 5,000 meters with an extraordinary time of 14:35.29, beating the national record (14:41.12) by six seconds and the overall European Championships record (14:46.12) by eleven. Second place went to the Norwegian Karoline Groevdal, who preceded the Spanish Marta Garcia, Completing the top 5 were the Dutch Maureen Koster and the Finnish Nathalie Blomqvist. Good seventh place, finally, for Italy&#39s Federica Del Buono.

“It’ was a fabulous evening, very difficult race. I imagined that my opponents would put it on the pace, because they know that one of my trump cards è that of the final" began the Italian on the microphones of "Rai Sport";
