Two major changes for World Sbk 2024
Change in the running for World Superbike 2024. Due to the protracted renovation work on the Balaton Park circuit, which was supposed to host the August 23-25 Hungarian Round, organizers of the rainbow competition have been forced to cancel the event, adding forò another one later, in mid-October, in Portugal.
The Portuguese Round will be held at the Estoril circuit from October 11 to 13 and will be the penultimate round of World Sbk, fitting in between the rounds of Aragon (September 27 to 29) and Jerez (October 18 to 20), the last weekend of the 2024 season.
The circuit in the Portuguese city will host, in addition to Superbike, the Supersport and WorldWCR races, the women’s championship. These classes, which were scheduled to participate in the Balaton Park weekend, will also be joined by the Yamaha R3 Blue Cru European class.
Estoril has been missing from the World Superbike calendar since the 2022 season: the last winners were Alvaro Bautista, on Ducati, in race-1, and Jonathan Rea, then on Kawasaki, in both the Superpole Race and race-2. In 2020, the Portuguese circuit è was also the scene of Rea’s sixth rainbow success.
