Jannik Sinner ready for season on the grass
Roland Garros did not è end as he would have liked but Jannik Sinner, who from Monday anyway will be the new No. 1 in the ATP rankings, is already projected toward the next slam tournament, Wimbledon. After his semifinal loss in Paris to Carlos Alcaraz, therefore, the South Tyrolean will take a few days to recover his energy, before turning his attention to tournaments on grass.
The next event that will see Sinner at the start, in fact, will be the tournament in Halle, Germany, barring any sensational schedule changes, an event whose first edition was held in 1993, with Frenchman Henri Leconte winning in the final against Ukrainian Andrei Medvedev, with a final score of 6-2, 6-3.
Sinner has played the German tournament twice, in 2019 stopping in qualifying against Joao Sousa of Portugal, and in 2023, climbing all the way to the quarterfinals before a physical problem forced him to withdraw against Alexander Bublik. In previous rounds, Sinner had beaten Richard Gasquet and Lorenzo Sonego.
Other top tennis players, from Alexander Zverev to Daniil Medvedev, via Hubert Hurkacz and Stefanos Tsitsipas, are also expected to participate in Halle è. The tournament on the Westphalian city's grass will be held June 17-23, with singles and doubles draw. Bublik è the winner of the 2023 edition, won by beating Andrey Rublev in the final with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
