Marcell Jacobs regains confidence: ‘Me the favorite at the Olympics’
Olympic champion dreams of impressing the world in Paris as well
Jacobs è is back. At the European Championships in Rome, the Olympic champion sent a clear message to all his opponents: at the Paris Olympics, whoever wants to win gold over the 100-meter distance will have to reckon also and, perhaps, above all, with Jacobs, who finally returned competitive after about two years of waiting and working.
"I had said that the goal was to win the European Championships at home, in front of my audience. At 80 meters I started to feel cramps in my calf and I could not push as I wanted to, but I am happy. Now we continue to work", his words in the post-final of the 100 meters reported by Gazzetta dello Sport.
Jacobs is now aiming for the big score, which is to repeat at the Paris Olympics. The Italian, refreshed by gold at the European Championships in Rome, feels he can beat anyone and repeat the Tokyo Olympic gold: "The opponent to beat in Paris? Myself, when I can let go then I can really run. At the Olympics I am the favorite, I won't arrive there; just to participate".
The Olympic champion è is convinced that the Italian team of today is very strong and capable of taking a lot of satisfaction in Paris 2024: "This è the strongest Italy ever: with Ali we play the future. They are all determined, aiming to win, not to participate".
