Teun Koopmeiners scares Netherlands and Juventus: knockout before Euro 2024
A frightening physical problem ahead of the European Championships and beyond.
Teun Koopmeiners stops. The Netherlands midfielder had to sit out the friendly against Iceland because of a physical problem that occurred to him in the warm-up he was doing a few minutes before the preparatory friendly for Euro 2024. What his condition is and whether it may affect his participation in the European Championships, but also the soccer market transactions between Atalanta, Juventus and others, are to be determined.
Koopmeiners was preparing to play with his Netherlands team, but had to raise the white flag after taking a shot toward the goal with his left foot. At that point he suffered discomfort, the extent of which has yet to be determined, but which convinced Oranje coach Ronald Koeman to send another old acquaintance of Serie A: former Bologna player Jerdy Schouten.
È it is worth mentioning how Koopmeiners was one of the key players of Gian Piero Gasperini's Atalanta, which in the last season finished fourth in Serie A (thus returning to the Champions League) and won the Europa League, even reaching the Italian Cup final. The talented Dutch midfielder è thus returned from an impressive 51 games this season, topped by 15 goals. His teammate Giorgio Scalvini è on the other hand, stopped in the last league game with Fiorentina, having to give up his call-up with Italy.
Koopmeiners possible injury could also affect his future. Juventus likes the player a lot, but also in the Premier League. Atalanta so far has not è seemed però willing to accept Bianconeri offers, even those involving technical counterparts such as Dean Huijsen, Samuel Iling Junior or Moise Kean.
