Zwayer’s Turn
A German for the Azzurri’s debut at Euro 2024. Felix Zwayer, born May 19, 1981, in Berlin, will direct Saturday night’s match between Luciano Spalletti’s Italy and Albania.
Zwayer began his refereeing career in the German minor leagues: in 2004 he made his debut in the 2. Bundesliga and, in 2009, he made his debut in the Bundesliga, becoming one of the youngest referees to direct in the German top league.
In 2012, Zwayer è was added to FIFA’s list of international referees, allowing him to direct matches in European and world competitions. He has refereed in such prestigious tournaments as the Champions League and the Europa League.
One of the highest moments of his career è was directing the UEFA Super Cup final in 2017 between Real Madrid and Manchester United.
