Italvolley in celebration
Now it's official: Italvolley will participate in the Paris Olympics and the 2024 VNL Finals, scheduled in Bangkok (June 20-23). Just hours before the whistle blows for Italy-South Korea, valid for Pool 6 of the VNL, the 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-23) victory of the Netherlands over Canada made qualification for Paris certain, through the wide lead in the world ranking, and simultaneously gave the pass for the final act of the Volleyball Nations League.
With still the challenges against South Korea (today at 12:30 p.m. Italian time), the United States (June 15 at 8:30 a.m. Italian time) and Serbia (June 16 at 8:00 a.m. Italian time) to be played, the Azzurri will try to conquer the best possible position with a view to the VNL quarterfinals and to strengthen the position in the ranking ahead of the Olympic group draw that will take place right in Bangkok next June 19 (at 1 p.m. Italian time).
The joy of the president of the Italian Volleyball Federation, Giuseppe Manfredi: “C’è great satisfaction for this qualification; we always had the knowledge that the azzurre would show all their great value and with a series of excellent performances they have secured the Olympic pass. Special thanks, as well as to the girls, go to Velasco and all his staff: together they did a great job, especially considering the short time available. Having achieved qualification, the main goal now is to live the next Olympic Games as protagonists. Showing up in Paris with two senior national teams, three beach volleyball pairs and the women’s national sitting volleyball team è really an extraordinary result that rewards the many investments of the Federation and the great amount of work carried out by the whole Italian Volleyball. Such an important delegation represents in the best way the strength of our whole movement”.
