Francesco Molinari performs a miracle and writes history
Molinari’s Miracle
At the U.S. Open in Pinehurst, North Carolina, Francesco Molinari made a "hole-in-one" on the last hole played, making the cut and keeping alive, albeit marginally, his hopes of qualifying for the Paris Olympics.
With a 7-iron, from 194 yards (177 meters), the Turin golfer, who started on hole 10, hit a perfect shot on hole 9 (par 3). This marks the 53ª "hole-in-one" in the history of the U.S. Open and the third in Molinari’s career on the PGA Tour, after those achieved in 2015 at the Phoenix Open (third round) and in 2019 at the'Arnold Palmer (first round), a tournament he went on to win.
"I really don’t know what to say, è it was just incredible. It was my last chance to make the cut, this è golf", said a satisfied Molinari. Since 2003, on the PGA Tour, no player had managed to make the cut thanks to a "hole-in-one".
