Matteo Berrettini-Lorenzo Musetti: only one precedent
Matteo Berrettini will face Lorenzo Musetti in the second semifinal of the Stuttgart ATP 250. The blue derby in fact, è set no earlier than 2 p.m. on center court, following the other semifinal in which the U.S. Brandon Nakashima and Britain's Jack Draper will face each other, scheduled for 12 noon.
There è only one precedent between the Roman and Carrara-based tennis players: it dates back to the final of the 2022 Naples ATP 250, played on the outdoor concrete courts of the Arena overlooking the Gulf, and the winner was Musetti, who defeated Berrettini in two sets (7-6 6-2), triumphing at the Tennis Napoli Cup. This is thus the first match between the two Italians on grass.
Berrettini is chasing his third final in Stuttgart, where he canò boast two titles: the first in 2019, when he beaté Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final, and the second in 2022, after defeating Andy Murray in the final. Musetti, on the other hand, è still in the hunt for his first final this season, as well as his first ever on grass.
Berrettini è reached the semifinals thanks to wins over Roman Safiullin, Denis Shapovalov and James Duckworth, while Musetti overcame Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Dominik Koepfer and Alexander Bublik, who raised the white flag early in the third set in the quarterfinal played Friday.
