Euro 2024: Holland rejoices at 85'85' a great Szczesny is not enough for Poland

The Netherlands also responds: after Spain, Germany and Italy, Koeman’s selection also respects its role as favorite and knocks out Poland 2-1 on its debut at Euro 2024. The oranje dominated the match against the Poles but wasted too much under goal and were stopped by a great Szczesny: at the 85th minute the Polish wall collapsed with Weghorst’s goal.

Lively first half full of chances, ended 1-1 with regrets for the Oranje: Koeman’s team plays the game, but is surprised in the beginning by Poland and then wastes too many goal balls. The Netherlands wasted everything with Reijnders, Depay and Van Dijk (great Szczesny on the Liverpool central), but on 29' found the deserved equalizer with Gakpo on a suggestion from Schouten.

The Dutch wastage continued even after the 1-1: at 42'Gakpo shot high from very few steps, with Szczesny beaten, and at 45' Depay also gobbled up the goal ball in front of the Juventus goalkeeper.

In the second half, the script does not change, with the Netherlands on the attack in search of victory making a collection of throwaway goal balls. Simons and Gakpo's inaccuracy and Szczesny's saves kept the challenge even, at 70'the Polish extreme defender è perfect on Dumfries, served by Depay.

In the final, the Netherlands found the suspected 2-1 thanks to Weghorst, triggered by Akè: at 85'è decisive was the newcomer's insertion in the box, which broke down the Polish wall. Poland threw itself forward in search of an equalizer and Verbruggen had to overcome Swiderski.
