Euro 2024: Germany doesn't give Hungary a chance. Nagelsmann in the round of 16
Second game, second win for host Germany at Euro 2024. Without particularly shining, the Germans knocked out a generous Hungary 2-0, bent by goals from Musiala and Gundogan, thus qualifying for the European Championship round of 16. Rossi’s team will instead play its last chances in the last match of the group against Scotland, which is engaged in the evening with Switzerland.
Germany unlocked the score midway through the first half thanks to Jamal Musiala: the Bayern Munich star è on his second goal in the competition. On Wirtz’s low cross, Musiala exchanged with Gundogan and then beat Gulacsi from a few steps. Hungarian protests over an alleged foul at the start of the action that led to the Teutonic lead.
Hungary reacted while Germany è seemed a bit listless and took chances: Neuer had to overcome himself on Szoboszlai’s free kick, and shortly afterward è it was Tah who saved the German goal on Szoboszlai’s own conclusion.
In the resumption Germany still under pace but risked little, and at 67' è came the double that sealed the match: Mittelstadt found Gundogan alone in the box, the Barcelona star’s left-footed shot sealed the match. Germany in total control in the end of the match, Sané and Fullkrug touched in vain the third goal, at the expiration Hungary asked in vain for a penalty. All it took was a Mannschaft in a minor tone to get right with Hungary and qualify among the top 16 in Europe.
