Euro 2024, England shingle: Luke Shaw one step away from forfeit
The big bet may already be lost.
England already one man down after only two matches at Euro 2024, perhaps. Indeed, alarm is growing around Gareth Southgate's national team around the condition of Luke Shaw, strongly wanted by the coach despite a season (and career in general) mowed down by injuries. The lateral, on the bench against Serbia and in the stands with Denmark, may in fact already have ended his experience at these European Championships.
According to 'Sky Sports UK' reports, in fact, Shaw not only missed England's training session held on Saturday, but may never return to Southgate's disposal. The coach had decided to wait for him and bet on him despite the fact that the player has not taken the field since February due to hamstring problems.
Shaw, who had scored the first of three career goals for England in the very final against Italy in Euro 2020 (he later equalized with Leonardo Bonucci before the penalty shootout that made the Azzurri European champions), had so far undergone personalized training sessions. What is transpiring from the media across the Channel, however, is that attempts to recover him are proving futile.
Shaw's last game with the England national team turned one year old just this week: it was a 7-0 win over North Macedonia dating back to June 19, 2023. Present at the 2014 World Cup, just because of as many injuries he had missed both Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup.
