Euro 2024: Germany first, Switzerland in the round of 16. Hungary hopes

Germany first in the group and Switzerland in the round of 16 at Euro 2024, Hungary still hopes to advance to the top third: that was the verdict on the final day of Group A of the European Championships. Fullkrug, scoring in the 92nd minute, saves the host Germans from a knockout against Switzerland, which for more than an hour dreamed of the top spot in the group. Hungary beats Scotland 100' and still hopes for qualification to the round of 16.

Germany got off to a good start, but after Andrich’s goal was disallowed by Orsato, assisted by VAR, for an earlier foul by Musiala, the game unexpectedly turned. The Helvetians gradually take over more and more of the field and on 28' find the lead with Ndoye: a Bologna-branded goal, the striker is served by the'other rossoblù Freuler.

In the second half, Germany accentuated the pressure and came close to equalizing with Kroos and Musiala. At 84'84' Vargas's doubling goal was cancelled, offside, and at the expiration the Germans managed to equalize with Fullkrug, framed at 92' on an assist from Reum. It's the goal that earned the lead in the round.

Balanced and very physical first half, with few scoring chances. The most important one was signed by Orban, who hit the crossbar at 41'. Big scare in the second half: at 71' Varga has to leave the field on a stretcher after a terrible clash of play, many frightened players on the field for what happened. 

In the end of the game Hungary è very dangerous with Szobososzlai and Csoboth, who hit the post in 92'. As many as 10 minutes of recovery time due to Varga's injury, and at 100' the Magyars find the winning goal: Csoboth on a counterattack scores the winning goal for Marco Rossi’s team, which thus closes on 3 points and hopes to pass as the best third.
