Jannik Sinner responds to Mats Wilander in his own way
Jannik Sinner responds to Wilander by equaling one of his records
Jannik Sinner responded in the best possible way to Mats Wilander, who after Carlos Alcaraz’s victory at Roland Garros had poked fun at the Azzurro by claiming that the San Candido tennis player was world number one only because of 'a matter of computers'. The South Tyrolean athlete responded on the court, triumphing in the ATP 500 tournament in Halle against Hurkacz in the final and winning the 14th title of his still short career.
In addition, Sinner equaled just one record of Wilander and 6 other past champions: è he was one of the few number ones to win the first tournament played as ATP ranking leader. Not even Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal had managed the feat.
The list includes seven illustrious names: Jimmy Connors, Bjorn Borg, Mats Wilander, Stefan Edberg, Pete Sampras, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. Champions such as Federer, Nadal, McEnroe and Agassi have not succeeded in this feat.
Sinner meanwhile has his sights set on Wimbledon, his next goal: "I come theì more confident, last year I made it to the semifinals, this time we will see but for sure I will haveò more confidence on this surface. Theì grass è a little bit different but I will have a week to prepare".
