Cantù, a new wing for Nicola Brienza
Joonas Riismaa è a new player of Cantù Basketball;
Through a note issued on its official channels, Acqua San Bernardo Pallacanestro Cantù announced the signing of Estonian small forward Joonas Riismaa. The 2002-born basketball player acquired Italian-educated status through a stint in the youth ranks of Siena and Pistoia. Riismaa è able to cover multiple roles on the outside making the most of his excellent shooting mechanics and marked athleticism, which makes him particularly dangerous on the rebound as well.
At age 14, he left Estonia to continue his basketball education in the youth ranks of Mens Sana Siena. After two years, he transferred to Pistoia. With the “biancorossi” he begins to measure himself with the double commitment between Under18 and Serie C Gold. Starting with the 2020-21 championship, he permanently joins the roster of the first team. Already in his first season in A2 he earns more than 20 minutes of average, managing to produce 6.5 points per game. The following year, coached by Coach Brienza, he grew to exceed double-figure averages. Thus came the call from Brindisi, which made his Serie A debut. In the two seasons in Puglia he continues his growth path thanks to an average employment of more than 10 minutes.
After a path in the youth national teams, Riismaa made his debut in the Estonian senior national team in 2022, also participating in the 2023 World Cup qualifiers.

On the arrival of the class of 2002, in conclusion, also expressed the new head coach Nicola Brienza: "I am extremely pleased with the arrival of Joonas, whom I consider one of the best prospects on the Italian scene. I had the pleasure of working with him in Pistoia and I am excited to resume the work done with him. I am sure he will be an excellent addition to our roster".
