Only one shot on goal in two in the entire group stage

Italy is waiting, with trepidation, for goals from its own bombers. Against Switzerland, a match valid for access to the quarterfinals of Euro 2024 (Saturday, 6 p.m.), it will need a more concrete attack to bring home a very important qualification for the entire Italian football movement. The hope è that Scamacca and Retegui unblock against the Helvetians.

To date, the European journey of the two strikers è has been decidedly bumpy. In the three matches valid for the group stage, neither è went in goal. On the contrary, data in hand, they shot only once on goal (Scamacca against Albania). Statistics that confirm how the two center-forwards, so far, have not affected as they should have.

To find such a sterile attack in a final phase of a European Championship one has to go back to 2008. Spalletti will have to find ways to unlock them, especially to make them more involved in the Azzurri maneuver. Scamacca, in particular, è been little involved in the game and this has affected his performance.

One important solution answers to the name of Chiesa. As already happened at Euro 2020, the Juventus outfielder seems the only one capable of jumping the man and creating for teammates. Scamacca and Retegui will have to be ready when the right ball arrives. Against Switzerland, it would be very useful to have an attack that works. Until now, it è never happened. And one cannot always hope for Zaccagni’s miracle in full recovery.
