Andrea Pavan in Cervia loses strokes and positions in the second round of the Italian Open. At the Adriatic Golf Club (par 71), halfway through the round, the Roman è slipped from first to ninth place with a total of 137 (64 73, -5) strokes. Same score also for Edoardo Molinari (69 68), who climbed però from 31st place thanks to a -3 on the day with four birdies and a bogey. In Emilia-Romagna è remained alone in the lead, with 133 (64 69, -9), Gunner Wiebe.
The 35-year-old from Colorado, number 568 in the world, dreams of becoming the second American since Billy Casper (1975) to make this competition his own. Behind him, second with 134 (-8), is Germany’s Jannik De Bruyne. In contrast, third with 135 (-7) are Sweden’s Marcus Kinhult, Spain’s Adrian Otaegui, South Africa’s Brandon Stone and Denmark’s Sebastian Friedrichsen.
As for the Italians, a total of nine made the cut. They include Filippo Celli, 23rd with 138 (-4), Matteo Manassero and Gregorio De Leo, 34th with 139 (-3). And again: Jacopo Vecchi Fossa, forty-fifth with 140 (-2) alongside, among others, U.S. Patrick Reed, Masters Champion in 2018.
Also accessing the final round of the DP World Tour tournament are Guido Migliozzi (best Italian in the world ranking and fresh from his success in the Netherlands in the KLM Open), Lorenzo Scalise and Aron Zemmer, all fifty-sixth with 141 (-1). Excellent elimination for Danny Willett (143, +1). The race for the Englishman, who won The Masters in 2016, è already finished.
