Italy returns to Berlin, Sky and Alessandro Del Piero push the Azzurri

Time for the round of 16 at UEFA Euro 2024, with Luciano Spalletti’s Azzurri opening the knockout stage. For the occasion, Sky Sport has created the super clip “Let’s go back to Berlin, Italy”, airing from today with Alessandro Del Piero’s voice and Pako Bono’s brushstrokes. A “live painting” made in the Sky Sport studios that ideally unites Del Piero’s goal in the Italy-Germany semifinal in Dortmund in 2006 and Mattia Zaccagni’s goal against Croatia, which brings Italy back to Berlin 18 years later.

THE SUPER CLIP – Brushstrokes of blue, artistic trajectories that paint two pieces of history, distant in time but close in emotion, of the Italian national team. Two moments that Sky Sport recounted with the voices of Fabio Caressa and Beppe Bergomi. Same destination: Berlin.

The’idea for the cover featuring Italy-Switzerland, stems from a statement made by Mattia Zaccagni minutes after scoring the goal against Croatia without which – on balance – Italy would be eliminated today.

“Alex Del Piero è my idol, I had his poster in my room” said Zaccagni to the microphones of Sky Sport, when he è was pointed out the similarity between his goal and Del Piero’s iconic goal in Dortmund in 2006, which sent Italy to the World Cup final, with that historic “close your bags, let’s go to Berlin!” shouted by Fabio Caressa.

From Berlin to Berlin, the coincidence è impressive in reviewing overlapping images of the two goals: ball spread out to the left, right-footed shot at the far post that sails past an orange-clad goalkeeper (at the time it was Lehmann, today Livakovic) and slips under the ’cross.

A wonderful blue suggestion.

After the match Alex Del Piero called Mattia Zaccagni to congratulate him, thrilling the Lazio outfielder who must have thought back to that child who used to stick posters of Alex in his room. And è just tuning into the line of these emotions that Sky asked Del Piero, now the super star of the Sky Sport team, to lend his voice to this clip that makes us relive in one scene the two moments, 18 years apart.

Brushstrokes of blue on a blank canvas, like those of Pako Bono, the artist who with his stroke told these two stories so distant but so close by transforming them into art, in a “live painting” made in the Sky studios.

In the background, there could only be the voice of another commentary artist and his fellow world champion: “Let’s go back to Berlin”.

The super clip “Let’s go back to Berlin, Italy” è is a Sky Sport production, entirely made “in house”, by Federico Salerno, shooting curated by Massimo Previti. The voice è of Alessandro Del Piero over text by Gianluigi Bagnulo, painted by Pako Bono.
