Wimbledon organizers have released the schedule for Monday, July 1, when the 137th edition of the Championships kicks off. Jannik Sinner will debut on Court 1 and not on 'Centre Court' reserved for defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, who will begin his title defense against Latvian qualifier Mark Lajal.
The world number one, meanwhile, will face off against German Yannick Hanfmann, number 95 in the ATP rankings. The match between the South Tyrolean and the Teutonic è the third match scheduled on Court 1, following the women's match between Aryna Sabalenka and Emina Bektas. Opening the program on the 'No.1 Court' will be Daniil Medvedev, opposing Aleksandar Kovacevic, at 2 p.m. Italian time.
Sinner will not be the only Italian player engaged on Monday. As many as five other Italian tennis players will make their debut at the All England Club: opening the dances will be Fabio Fognini and Matteo Arnaldi, who will take on Dominik Koepfer and Frances Tiafoe, respectively, on Courts 16 and 15; then it will be Matteo Berrettini’s turn, second match on Court 2 with Marton Fucsovics; finally, it will be Lorenzo Sonego’s turn, fourth match on Court 5 with Mariano Navone, and Mattia Bellucci’s turn, fourth match on Court 18 with Ben Shelton.
Among the women, Jasmine Paolini, who will face Sara Sorribes Tormo (second match on Court 3), Martina Trevisan, opposing Madison Keys (third match on Court 3) and Sara Errani, who will take on Linda Noskova in the fourth and final match on Court 4.
