Fabbri’s shoulder pad, Sottile’s flight, Desalu’s roar: the Italian Absolute Championships in La Spezia go on record with a Sunday of confirmations and comebacks at the Centro Sportivo Montagna. European champion Leonardo Fabbri sends the weight to 22.11, eighth success out of eight in the last two months, always over twenty-two meters.
The most surprise result è forè Stefano Sottile’s 2.30 in the high jump, moreover in the first round: è a measurement he hasn’t jumped in five years, that is, since the 2019 Bressanone Absolute in 2019 when he exceeded 2.33. Today’s performance places him at the current eighth place on the world lists of the year. Also in the spotlight was Olympic relay champion Fausto Desalu who excelled in the 200 with 20.30 (+1.8), while in the women’s 200, success went to Anna Bongiorni with a personal best of 23.10 (+0.7).
In the 400 meters, Edoardo Scotti has not run soì strong since 2020: the blue medalist wins with 45.28 and Alice Mangione cashes in the women’s triumph with 51.57. Of note is the return to the Italian 1500 title after 10 years for Federica Del Buono (4:05.14), who wore her only tricolor jersey in Rovereto in 2014. Among the men’s 1500, Federico Riva’s dry change (3:40.63) è fatal for European bronze medalist Pietro Arese at the end of a tactical race (3:41.06). A left biceps discomfort denies the final to Alessandro Sibilio: the 400 hurdles is won by Giacomo Bertoncelli (49.80), while among the women Alice Muraro wins in 55.13. In the 3000 steeplechase 8:21.00 for Yassin Bouih, 8:22.03 for Osama Zoghlami. In the morning, 10-kilometer march titles for Valentina Trapletti (43:54) and Andrea Agrusti (39:55) both personal bests.
