Shanghai Masters 1000: Tommy Paul doesn’t give Fabio Fognini a chance
Fabio Fognini-Tommy Paul 1-6 3-6
After a fine victory in the all-Italian derby with Luciano Darderi, Fabio Fognini failed to repeat against Tommy Paul, No. 13 in the ATP rankings and No. 11 in the seeding, in the Shanghai Masters 1000. The Ligurian, in fact, è surrendered in two sets to the American, who è imposed himself with the final score of 6-1 6-3 after just one hour of play.
The first set è a monologue of Paul: after both players hold serve in the first two games (1-1), the American strung five consecutive games and closed the first partial 6-1 in less than twenty-five minutes.
The second set è more tightly fought, the balance holds until 3-3: in the seventh game Paul snatches the serve from Fognini and heads towards victory, winning the last three games and closing on the first useful match point (6-3).
Fognini must thus bid farewell to the 'Rolex Shanghai Masters' in which as many as six other Azzurri are engaged: Jannik Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti, Flavio Cobolli, Matteo Arnaldi, Matteo Berrettini and Mattia Bellucci.
