America’s Cup, Emirates New Zealand still champion
Emirates New Zealand defends the America's Cup
The ninth race of the America's Cup final è decisive for the awarding of the trophy, now in its thirty-seventh edition: Emirates New Zealand leaves no chance to challenger Ineos Britannia and, winning the best-of-thirteen-race series 7-2, captures the prestigious trophy for the fifth time overall, also confirming its 2017 successes against BWM Oracle Racing and 2021 against Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli.
Off Barcelona, the New Zealand outfit’s AC75 boat won Saturday’s race in 26'43", ahead by 37" of the British boat, which had beaten Luna Rossa in the challengers’ final, that of the Louis Vuitton Cup: 7-9 knots of wind, in a race that saw the New Zealanders take the lead before checkpoint number 1 and finish without being overtaken.
This brings to a close a series that had begun with four consecutive victories for Emirates New Zealand, which had been followed by a good reaction from Ineos Britannia, which, on Wednesday, had managed to take both races running, bringing the series to 4-2.
Between Friday and Saturday, however, there was no more history: 1'13" the gap in regatta number 7, 55" in regatta number 8, 6-2 with the first match point available on Saturday. A day, October 19, without any twists and turns, which confirmed the boat put on the water by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron as champion.
