Forfait Jannik Sinner: the Paris-Bercy director’s comment

Jannik Sinner and Paris-Bercy: the chemistry continues to be lacking. After controversy last season over the match played at night and the abrupt withdrawal from the competition, è came this year's forfeit of the Italian tennis player on the eve of the debut in the last Masters 1000 of the season.

Sinner, struck down by a virus, preferred to save his strength for the ATP Finals in Turin, starting next Nov. 10, and for the Davis Cup.The South Tyrolean player was among the most eagerly awaited players in the main draw, and his withdrawal was a blow to the transalpine tournament.

Director Cedric Pioline, who last year had a spat with Sinner himself over match schedules, commented on the Italian tennis player’s decision as follows: "It’s not for me to judge every player, including Jannik Sinner, organizes his season as he sees fit".

"We can also say that in general Jannik Sinner è one of those who has a logical schedule, he doesn’t overload his schedule. So he was quite confident about his participation. But being high-level athletes, they are fragile from an immune standpoint at the end of the season, there are little things around that we can all catch. È bad luck? Probably, the problem is not è physical but viral", he said at the press conference.
