Gian Paolo Ormezzano, Torino’s condolences
Through an official statement, Torino remembered Gian Paolo Ormezzano, who passed away at the age of 89: "President Urbano Cairo and the entire Torino Football Club, deeply moved by the sad news, are close with affection to the Ormezzano family in the dear memory of Gian Paolo Ormezzano, a giant of Italian journalism, a citizen of the world but with his heart firmly planted in Torino where he was an indispensable reference point, always a proud and passionate Toro".
"Of the Toro he did not know everything: more – continued the note from the granata club -. In exchange for always flattering report cards and no absence from school with his dadà he saw all the home matches of the Grande Torino, becoming its extraordinary historical memory. From there; a crescendo of emotions without ever stopping, continuing to work until yesterday, even as a signature of the 'Corriere della Sera', always consolidating his very dense network of friendships woven in every sphere and in every place on earth".
"An absolute champion of journalism, with a record – among many – of 25 Olympics as a correspondent (between the Summer and Winter Games), as well as dozens and dozens of front-row participations in the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France, a true ace at telling anecdotes and jokes, often playing with words in his unparalleled and inimitable calembours, among his merits he also had generosity. Though sapped in physique by operations and several hospitalizations, still in his last hours his thoughts were “for my six friends, all very ill”. He often wrote this about others, but in his case and in the ’impossibility’of remembering him for all he did, è really appropriate: he will struggle’to be born, if ever he is born, another like him".
"The world of journalism, sports and culture, the Cityà of Turin and all those who had the’honor and pleasure of knowing him mourn an extraordinary performer, Taurus loses a friend. To all his family the deepest condolences and the fraternal embrace of the granata" closes the Toro statement.
