Seventh world title in cyclocross for Mathieu Van der Poel
The Dutchman Mathieu Van der Poel è confirmed himself as world cyclocross champion by winning the Elite round of the World Championships in Lievin, France, by detachment.
In second place was Van der Poel’s great rival, Belgium’s Wout Van Aert, trailing by 45 seconds. Third is the'other Belgian Thibau Nys at 1’06”.
For Van der Poel è the seventh rainbow title in cyclocross, equaling the record of Belgian Eric De Vlaeminck, older brother of the better-known Roger.
Van der Poel beat Van Aert, winner of three titles but the last dating back to 2018, for the fifth time in this race. The only Italian competing was Gioele Bertolini, 22nd at 5’35”.
