Federica Brignone’s words right after winning the gold medal in the World Giant Slalom in Saalbach: “A result that I dreamed of all my life and today I make a dream come true. I knew I had a good advantage and this calmed me down. I told myself to stay calm, I also knew I had a good feeling with this snow and this slope, but it è never easy to reach the goal at the right time. I still struggle to achieve. At Worlds it counts all or nothing, I knew it was the opportunity to give more gas, as I have been doing all season. Already this morning I was feeling good and all I was thinking about was skiing. I was telling myself to keep moving, to just think about skiing and do my best. Also today I have a confirmation that I have the right legs and head: I did half a run in apnea, but I was able to push all the way. It’ s nice to come to a big event focused on the right things”.
“I made the difference in the’last corner of the first heat, where the track turns, the’I took space and was able to get good speed, otherwise you stop. I kept pushing from the’beginning and I feel like the others had a little too much respect. This è my favorite snow condition”.
“I lived well the whole day. I had never won in the giant slope at the World Championships and things get more complicated, when you are in the lead after the first run. But I always tried to stay focused. When I crossed the finish line I was just hoping to see number 1, but I didn’t know what to expect. There’s always been a very high level in women’s skiing, as far as my generation is concerned, then è Shiffrin, the strongest of them all, also came along. To achieve such a result, with all eyes on you is really difficult, and I am really satisfied” today.
“Deborah and I have one thing in common, Mauro Sbardellotto, the skiman who won both gold medals. I can’t imagine his excitement. Deborah è has always been a champion with a capital C. The giant was something I was looking for and longing for, è it was really exciting.
