Matteo Marsaglia will leave competitive activities at the end of the season

On the sidelines of the rainbow downhill in Courchevel, which he finished in 15th place, Matteo Marsaglia announced that he will leave competitive racing at the end of the 2022/23 World Cup season.

“I enjoyed this race very much, because it was my last World Cup and also one of my last races ever,” the 1985-class athlete confirmed to the official Fisi channels. “The time has come, I will finish the season since there is not much time left. The goal would be to access the finals, to be able to bid farewell there in beauty. In any case, this is it, the time has come to step aside and I say this with some emotion.”

“It’s been a fantastic career,” Marsaglia added, “I’ve been through it again in these days since my World Championship debut in 2011: 12 years have passed. A lot of sweat, some tears and some smiles, but I’m enjoying it until the end. After skiing I will definitely be a full-time dad, I will take a sabbatical year to be with my family and stop being around with my suitcase all the time. I already have one child and I have another one coming at the end of April. We will then see what to do, but there are so many possibilities. I will definitely teach my children to ski, as I was lucky enough to do as a child.”
