There'è still some Italy in the running in Indian Wells. Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, in fact, will play tonight the final of the second invitational mixed doubles tournament that enriches the program of the BNP Paribas Open, a tournament combined with the first men’s Masters 1000 of the season and the WTA 1000 broadcast live on SuperTennis, free to air.
Errani and Vavassori, the first Italian pair to win a Slam in mixed doubles, at the US Open last year, won two matches on the first day. They first defeated Marcelo Arevalo and Timea Babos 63 67(2) 10-7. Then they returned to the court and beat 76(3) 63 home favorite Desirae Krawczyk and Britain's Neal Skupski, two-time champions at Wimbledon.
In the final they will face U.S. Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Croatian Mate Pavic, world No. 1 in doubles along with Arevalo.The two eliminated Berrettini and Sonego in the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles tournament. Mattek-Sands and Pavic beat Australian John Peers and Russian Diana Shnaider 62 46 13-11.
