Extraordinary Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner: after the Olympic title in Beijing 2022 in the mixed doubles, two Azzurri write another historical page in the history of Italian curling by triumphing at the world championships held in Fredericton, the Canadian city that is the capital of the province of New Brunswick.

This is the first world title won by Italy in curling, just as the one in Beijing had been the first in five circles: credit again to the 26-year-old from Cortina d’Ampezzo and the 30-year-old from Cembra in Trentino, who returned to pair up after more than three years and once again did not lose a single game.

After wins in the round robin over Finland (10-3), Germany (10-3), South Korea (9-4), Denmark (8-5), Canada (7-5), Scotland (7-4), China (8-2), Sweden (6-4) and the Netherlands (8-5), they won the semifinals by beating Estonia 7-6 at the extra-end, finding themselves in the finals against Scotland.

Often in a final you have the opposite result ispect to the round robin, but instead Constantini and Mosaner immediately flew to 5-1, suffered a partial remotnation by the British at 5-4 but then in the seventh end a masterpiece by Constantini, a double bocciata, gave the two Azzurri a 4-0 lead that ended the match with one end to end 9-4.

Constantini and Mosaner between the Olympics and World Championships have thus reached 22 consecutive matches won. It is a title that gives them great confidence in view of the five-ring gold that the two will be called upon to defend at next year’s Miano-Cortina Games, with the curling competitions taking place right at Stefania Constantini’s home.
