Sara Errani says goodbye to Rome immediately. In her debut at the Internazionali d’Italia, the tennist from Romagna surrendered in two sets to the’former world number one Naomi Osaka, currently number 48 in the WTA ranking, who won with a final score of 6-2 6-3 after an hour and 19 minutes of play.

An uphill start for the Azaka who lost her serve as early as the fourth game (1-3). Osaka confirmed the break (4-1) and repeated it in the next game (5-1). The Japanese player does not close on serve (5-2) but makes up for it in response (6-2).

Errani’s reaction is not long in the second partial: Sara breaks Naomi’s serve (2-1) and confirms the break (3-1). From that moment, however, the Japanese player strung together a mega partial of five consecutive games, winning the second set as well (6-3).

The second set was also won by Naomi.

The Rome WTA 1000 draw thus loses Errani but there are still as many as 7 Azzurri women still committed, including of course Jasmine Paolini, the sixth seed in the seeding, who will face Australian Lulu San, number 46 in the ranking.
