Now it’s official. The America’s Cup sailing, edition number 38, will be held in Naples in 2027. This is sensational news that brings prestige to the’entire city and offers a’golden opportunity for the many Italian sailing fans to see, in the Bel Paese, one of the most prestigious events in the sailing world.
Team New Zealand eventually chose Naples as the venue to bring America’s Cup number 38 to life. The races will take place in the waters between Castel dell’Ovo and Posillipo. Naples won out over competition from Athens and Cagliari.
Premier Giorgia Meloni celebrated the news enthusiastically: “I am proud to announce that the America’s Cup will be held, for the first time in history, in Italy. Naples will be the host city in 2027 for the 38th edition of the world’s most famous and prestigious sailing tournament, a global event that involves millions of fans and represents a unique synthesis of tradition, technological innovation, engineering excellence and competitive spirit. I would like to thank the Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, the Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti, the Mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi, Sport and Health and all those who have worked, with passion and determination, to achieve this great result. The choice of the Neapolitan capital will help strengthen the renewed prominence of the South, which in recent years has been able to rediscover its dynamism and pride, registering GDP and employment growth above the national average”.
“The organization of the America’s Cup in Naples will also make it possible to accelerate the massive redevelopment and regeneration plan launched by the government to transform the Bagnoli area into a modern tourist, seaside and commercial hub. Italy’s choice is one that makes us proud, because it is a recognition of the very identity of our nation. Indeed, without the sea, we would not be what we are. The sea is history, identity, culture, but also an irreplaceable piece of our production and economic system, thanks to the leadership position we hold in the nautical, shipbuilding, cruise industry and many other areas related to the blue economy. We look forward to welcoming the America’s Cup. Italy will rise to this challenge, and prove once again to the world what it is capable of” his words.
