Jannik Sinner hits the second round at Roland Garros, beating Arthur Rinderknech in three sets. The No. 1 on the ATP circuit has closed the accounts in three sets, with the score 6-4, 6-3, 7-5, and at the end of the match admitted the’importance of this victory and he already framed the next challenge against Richard Gasquet.

“The first match in a tournament like Roland Garros is never easy, and I am happy with the way I’ve handled it – commented Sinner warmly -I play with only myself in mind. I try to learn from the trajectories of my opponents, and I have to say that Rinderknech played the third set really great. I got back into the match after the break, because clearly if he had gone to 5-0 it would have been almost impossible to recover”.

“I have faced Rinderknech before– added Sinner -, and I knew it was not going to be easy. I tried to build my confidence point by point, he on his side made some mistakes when he had the opportunity to serve for the set. That helped me, however, I had the right mental attitude and brought it to the court. I am happy with how’it went today”.

Inevitable to think about the second round against Gasquet, who just against Sinner could play his last official match on the ATP circuit. “Obviously it will be a very special match. He has given so much to tennis, and I am so happy to be able to share the court with him. I also know that you will be rooting for him, but that is absolutely normal” concluded the San Candido outfielder.
