Maurizio Sarri returns to Lazio, it’s done: signing in the week

Maurizio Sarri is ready to return to the Lazio bench. More than a year after the 15-month goodbye consummated in March 2024, the Tuscan coach and the biancoceleste club have reached a final agreement to return to Formello. The agreement was reached after a lengthy meeting in Figline Valdarno between Sarri and sporting director Angelo Mariano Fabiani. All that is missing are the signatures, expected between Tuesday and Wednesday, but it is now done: Sarri will lead Lazio again.
The new contract includes a 2.5 million euro net salary per season, with important bonuses: one million in case of Champions League qualification and 500,000 euros in case of access to the Europa League. The tie will be two years, with an option for a third year.
Determining to close the deal was clarity on the technical plan. Sarri asked for and received fundamental reassurances: the big boys will stay, barring irrenounceable offers and only if there are substitutes who are up to the task. After the last disappointing season, closed without qualifying for European competitions under Marco Baroni, the club decided to restart with a familiar face and a project that had already shown signs of solidity between 2021 and 2023.
Sarri wants to have a say in market choices and has asked for more involvement than in the past. The management, aware of the need for a technical and d’image revitalization, has accepted his conditions.
